Midsize Business Jet
Midsized jets are designed as private aircraft for executive, private and air charter use and are very popular for their privacy, convenience and flexibility whilst able to travel further, faster and with more comfort then Light Jets. They can accommodate 8-12 passengers in their large, more spacious cabins compared to Light Jets or Turboprop Aircraft and enable passengers to stand up right and provide ample leg room. With typical cabin dimensions of 5ft 10in high, 6ft wide and 20 ft long, the amenities include private lavatories, luxury leather reclining chairs; two to three place couches, galley for hot and cold food plus in-flight entertainment and data link facilities. Passengers can also take advantage of external and internal storage compartments for baggage.

Midsized jets can travel over 500mph covering a distance of 3,379km; this means the jet is capable of flying 4-5hours (maximum of 7hrs) from US Coast to Coast. These aircraft are also able to fly in and out of airports that are not accessible to larger commercial aircraft.

There are many types of Midsize Jets available including the Learjet 45 manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace. The Learjet 45 features a 13° sweep angle wing, a T-tail and rear mounted Honeywell TFE731-20 turbofan engines producing 3,500lb of thrust each. This aircraft is able to reach an initial cruise altitude in 23 minutes, certified for a maximum altitude of 51,000ft and has a long-range cruise speed of 465mph with a range of 3,167 km (1,710nm). The wide cabin can accommodate a maximum of 9 passengers in a two abreast layout with swivelling recliner seats, plus fold-down tables, a galley and lavatory.

Another midsize jet is the Citation Excel manufactured by the Cessna Aircraft Company incorporates advances in engine and airframe technology. Powered by rear mounted Pratt & Whitney PW545A Turbofan engines capable of producing 3804lb of thrust each, the Excel has a maximum cruising speed of 795km/h at 35,000ft with a climb rate of 3790ft/min and a certified maximum altitude of 45,000ft. With a choice of 4 cabin configurations, the Excel can seat up to 10 passengers (in high-density configuration) in a two abreast layout.

The Gulfstream 100/200 midsized jet manufactured by Gulfstream and is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306 turbofans producing 5,700lb thrust each. The G200 is certified for a maximum altitude of 45,000ft and has a long-range cruise speed of 528mph with a range of 6,300 km (3,400nm) normal cruise at altitude. The three abreast cabin can seat between 8 to 10 passengers in executive style, or up to 18 as a corporate shuttle.
